I saw The Avengers last night….. and I was so blown away!!! To be honest, I didn’t have high hopes for this one. I was disappointed by Iron Man 2, and aside from the Captain himself, I hated Captain America. But it blew me out of the water and I can officially say that this is my new favorite movie.
The concept of this movie(*NO spoilers*) is that housed on Earth is a powerful cube called the Tesseract. Aliens from another planet have come to steal the Tesseract, harness its power, and rule the human race. Well aren’t they as fun as a barrel of monkeys? 😉 But really, these aliens are vicious, and reminded me a lot of the Decepticons from Transformers (yet they were just different enough so that it didn’t annoy me). As they steal the Tesseract, they are led by a demi-god named Loki, who happens to be Thor’s half-brother. To defend Earth against the probably phsycopathic murder Loki and his robot-alien goonies, the government puts together a team of superhero agents called The Avengers. The Avengers disagree about many things, but unite to fight for Earth in a deadly battle for Manhattan.
The Avengers consists of 6 awesome superheroes. These are my impressions of all of them. (I apologize for the fact that most have to do with hotness ;)) Also, you wouldn’t expect a superhero movie to be funny, right? Well, this movie was HILARIOUS! Like fall-out-of-your-seat, spill-your-drink-on-your-date hilarious. Keep your ears open for some classic jokes that won’t be going out of style anytime soon! Anyway, back to the task at hand…
Iron Man/Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.)- Wonderful! He is a little old to be called hot, but his acting was great as always. He had several funny moments not to be missed!
Captain America (Chris Evans)- Let me just say that Captain America is my favorite. I saw his specific movie, and like I said before, aside from him, it sucked. Really badly. But especially in this movie, I appreciated my background knowledge of him. I understood why he was troubled, why he felt the way he did, and acted a certain way. That is good acting right there, my friends. But the reason he is my favorite also has to do with the way his character acts. I believe he is the most noble of all of them! Here is a little funny quote that I liked that also showed a lot about his character:
Black Widow: “You can’t go after them(Thor and Loki were fighting at the time). These guys are gods, it’s too dangerous.”
Cap.:”There is only one God, ma’am. And I’m pretty sure he doesn’t dress like that.”
See why I love him? And I can’t help but throw in a little picture. I mean, he is perfect. Without the dirt. His muscles are HUGE!
Thor (Chris Hemsworth): I love his accent. I haven’t seen the actual movie Thor, but this really made me want to know his backstory. He also has very, very good hair.
Hawkeye/ Agent Clint Barton(Jeremy Renner): OK, so I admit that I really like Jeremy Renner. I have ever since I saw him in Mission Impossible. He certainly didn’t disappoint in this movie either! I think he was more made for this role than for his in Mission Impossible! He basically has really good eyesight (hence the name Hawkeye) and has a bow and arrow that he rocks at shooting. My second favorite character! 🙂
Dr. Banner/ Hulk (Mark Ruffalo): They did a really good job with this character! I don’t know the story of the Hulk, but Mark Ruffalo did a great job giving him a depth I didn’t know a big green monster could have! He calls him “the other guy”, like he has a split personality disorder (and he kind of does) and it really is sad the way he feels volatile. On the other hand, he also has lots of funny moments and happens to be good at smashing stuff to pieces.
Black Widow/ Agent Natasha Romanoff (Scarlett Johannson): She was the only character that I really had a problem with, because I still fail to understand why she qualifies as a hero. Seems to me like she’s a kick-butt secret agent with mad skills, but super powers? Not really! Each of the characters has a trademark weapon (Cap.:shield, Hawkeye: bow and arrows, Thor: hammer, Iron Man: suit, Hulk: being huge and green) but hers is just…. a gun? Really…. that part just didn’t click with me. But she was a great actress, and I enjoyed her performance despite those things.
The only major issue I have with this movie is its length. After trailers, you spend about 2 1/2 hours in the theater. That is a little ridiculous. But since I can’t imagine them cutting any of the scenes out, I’ll let it slide.
So, I don’t know if you’ve noticed, but this movie is a total yes from me! Recommended to everyone! And if you aren’t convinced, check out some other movie reviews of it. I have yet to find one negative one! 🙂 Also, it had the second biggest grossing opening day OF ALL TIME! It took in 80.5 million dollars, behind only the final Harry Potter movie (opening day for that was 91.1 mil). So far it has made 415 million dollars worldwide! And it has only been in theaters for 1 1/2 days! That, and the reviews are great everywhere. Clearly, this movie is a win on all accounts!
Hope you guys enjoyed it! Review of Stardust by Neil Gaiman soon 😉
